The campers woke up on our last morning to beautiful blue skies (typical!) and they began to pack up their belongings. After another brilliant breakfast, we gathered on the grass for our rocket launch! Most of the rockets soared across the whole camp, one even landing in the goal net at the other end of the field! A couple of them didn’t even make it past the start line and there was a near miss for the children filming the launches! But the children absolutely loved it and it was a brilliant last activity at Greatwood.
After lunch, the Greatwood staff awarded some certificates and prizes for the winners of the duck race and their all stars of the week - well done to these children! Mr McGovern then awarded some more prizes, including bravest, most helpful and smelliest cabin!
It was then time to begin to pack up the coach much to the dismay of many of the children. After saying our final thanks to the amazing Greatwood staff, we are now safely on the coach heading back to Stanbridge. See you all soon!
Great Wood Day 2
Not even the, at times torrential, rain could stop play at Great Wood today. We have enjoyed an action-packed day involving duck racing, archery, low-ropes and a ‘night walk’ - we had better let your children tell you more about how they faced their fears and met every challenge thrown at them on that one! Teamwork defined all the activities today and it has been a privilege to see how they all take care of, supported and encouraged each other. The staff at Great Wood have been full of praise for our year group and school and we are justifiably proud of them!
We are rounding off the day with songs and games around a roaring camp fire which is the perfect way to draw the curtain on our penultimate day. We will see you tomorrow, muddier but full of memories made.
Year 5’s Great Wood adventure is well underway. We have settled in to our cabins, made our own beds (many of us for the first time!) and enjoyed some free time for frisbee, football and diary writing.
After enjoying our packed lunches, We launched the afternoon’s activities designing, and building rockets which we will aim high and make fly on Friday. As a team we then trooped into the woods to gather fire wood for tomorrow evening’s camp fire. Some of us were very ambitious and together we collected a good stack of wood.
Everyone ate well this evening (the apple crumble was amazing!) with a sizeable queue for seconds. The sun broke out and we went for a post-meal wander in the woods, learning about ants and formic acid and completing a scavenger hunt.
Great Wood is settling down to sleep; with all in pjs. It is a very happy camp, and so it is goodnight from all of us.
