Chocolate! [4 new pictures added 19.2.12]
In year 2 we have started our new Chocolate!
topic and this week was very exciting because we did some chocolate tasting.
Mrs.
Cottis and Miss Reeve had a variety of bars of chocolate for the children to look
at, smell, feel and taste. The children all loved this unusual activity and came
up with a whole range of different adjectives and WOW words to describe the chocolate
they chose to sample. Afterwards the children in 2B had the chance to design their
own chocolate bar for Willy Wonka to make at his fabulous factory.
They could choose the shape and fillings they particularly liked and the name for their own bar design. You can see some photos of our special chocolate lesson and a couple of new chocolate bar designs which Nathan and Cameron produced...
Electricity pictures
In Year 2A, we have been learning about electricity and making circuits. We have been investigating:
► What happens to the bulbs if more batteries are added into the circuit?
► What happens to the bulbs if more bulbs are added into the circuit?
► Why a bulb will or will not light.
We have also made circuits with a switch so that we can turn the light on and off!
Term 4
During Term 4 we will be looking at weighing and measuring in grams and kilograms.
Children will have to opportunity to measure objects on balance scales using gram
weights and to begin learning how to read scales on Salter scales. Any further reinforcement
you can give your children at home through helping with cooking activities would
be fantastic.
We will also be practising telling the time, initially to the hour,
half hour, quarter to and quarter past both on analogue and digit clocks. Please
practise telling the time with your child at home. When they are proficient with
this we will move on to five minute intervals.

Finally, we will be collecting and presenting data in different ways (bar charts
& pictograms) in order to answer questions.
Year 2B use ‘Beebots’!
We have been enjoying our ICT lately in Year 2. We used the Beebots (small programmable robots) in class, trying to get them to follow a particular route on the floor.
It was tricky listing the sequence of instructions correctly, but when we got it right, the Beebots moved along the route we chose for them all the way to the end.
It was fun!
Open Morning for parents to share a book with their child
We had a great response from the Year 2 parent/carers last week when we held our open morning for shared reading.
It was super to see so many parent/carers willing and able to come into school and show their child how much they value reading and support them with their learning. Our pupils also enjoyed having some Year 6 children in the class to read with.
Have a look at some images from our open morning.
