Governors

 

Welcome to our Governors’ section.

The Governing Body is made up of elected parent governors, staff governors and co-opted governors (from business and the local community). Their role is to determine the strategic direction of the school and ensure that the school complies with its statutory responsibilities.

The Full Governing Body meets 5 times per year to discuss progress towards the school's strategic objectives.

 

Governor Roles and Responsibilities:

Chair of Governors: Claire McKinstry

Vice Chair of Governors: Andrew Pick 

Chair of Personnel Committee: Claire McKinstry

Chair of Curriculum Committee: Frances Lindsey-Clark

Chair of Finance Committee: Andrew Pick

Safeguarding Governor: Zara Slaney

 

 

In addition to the Full Governing Body, the Governors also meet in various Sub-committees to focus on a particular aspect of the school's work:

 

Personnel Committee

This committee is responsible for:

  1. Advising the Head teacher and FGB on general matters relating to the school staff.
  2. Seeking continual improvement in the learning environment to maximize the potential of all learners to make good or better progress with the long term welfare of the school staff and its pupils uppermost in its priorities.
  3. Advising the Full Governing Body on staffing.
  4. Keeping all children safe by monitoring safeguarding arrangements.

 

 

Curriculum Committee

This committee is responsible for:

  1. Determining the nature and balance of the supplimentary curriculum within the framework of statutory legislation.
  2. Advising the Governing Body on standards within the wider curriculum.
  3. Considering and advising the governing body on the school’s curriculum policy and monitoring the implementation of changes to the school curriculum in line with national and local guidelines and requirements.
  4. Scrutinising the strategic direction (in line with the 4 year strategic plan & School Development Plan) of Curriculum development.
  5. Ensuring equal opportunities, disability rights and inclusion within the wider curriculum.
  6. Advising the Full Governing Body on standards of achievement in Reading, Writing and Maths; including variation between groups of pupils.
  7. Advising the Full Governing Body on standards in the teaching of Reading, Writing and Maths.
  8. Ensuring equal opportunities, disability rights and inclusion in teaching, learning and pastoral care.
  9. Keeping all children safe by monitoring safeguarding arrangements.

 

Finance, Premises and Staffing Committee

This committee is responsible for:

  1. The sound financial management of the school.
  2. Ensuring that the premises and grounds of Blackhorse Primary School remain in good repair and are fit for purpose.
  3. Ensuring that the premises and grounds remain safe for all users.
  4. Keeping all children safe by monitoring safeguarding arrangements.
