Stanbridge Girls Versus St Anne’s Girls (Report by Lucy A. 6B)
On Thursday 15th December, the first EVER stupendous Stanbridge girls football team battled against St Anne’s in an evenly contested game. Stanbridge got off to a good start as we had most of the possession and were coming on very strong. Lydia, who was up front, had a few brilliant shots on target but unfortunately the St Anne’s keeper made some great saves.
Minutes before the half time whistle was blown, St Anne’s aimed at goal and the ball crept past Stanbridge’s goal keeper and rolled into the back of the net. It was unfortunate for Kate, our keeper, as she had made some fantastic saves earlier in the game.
After half time, with the light quickly fading, Stanbridge were given a corner and Nancy and Casey, both defenders, went up into the St Anne’s box in an attempt to score. The ball was floated into the box by our captain, Lucy, but it bounced off Nancy’s knee and saved by the keeper who managed to get a hand to it.
As the nail biting game neared its end, St Anne’s had a wonderful opportunity to score another goal. However, zooming up behind their striker, like a cheetah, was our star defender Nancy and she managed to clear the ball away.
It was a challenging match for Stanbridge and we lost 1 – 0. Back Up...
Stanbridge Girls Versus St Anne’s Girls (Report by Kate M. 5A)
On Thursday 15th December, the girl’s football team had a match against St Anne’s. The score was 1 – 0 to them. Casey and Nancy were fantastic in defence and Lydia, Chloe, Dominica and Holly were great midfielder's. Lucy was a fab captain and striker. Kate, in goal, saved two shots but unfortunately let one in.
Everybody had a great time. Lydia was so close to make the match a draw but the other side’s keeper was very good. Everybody played with all their hearts and worked harder than ever. The greatest thing about our first match was that we shared teamwork and joy.
We may well have lost, but we were proud to try nevertheless. Back Up...
Stanbridge Boys Defeat Kings Forest (Report by Harry H. 6A)
On Thursday 1st December, the Stanbridge football team thrashed Kings Forest 14 – 2 with a brilliant team performance. In the fist half, Kings Forest held strong for five minutes, but then Stanbridge scored six quick goals. In the second half, Forest scored two goals, but Stanbridge stood tall and netted a further eight!
The goal scores were: Harry H (4), Daniel B (4), Captain Isaac (3), Euan (2) and Bailey S (1). Jack W, Luke B and Harry S were strong in defence. Also, the managers did a smashing job – nice one Mr Baker and Mr Sloper! Back Up...
Stanbridge Boys are Spectacular! (Report by Euan B. 6B)
On Thursday the 24th November the spectacular Stanbridge football team battered Barley Close 8 – 0 in a local schools derby. We played a superb passing game and totally outclassed our rivals. The goals were scored by midfielders Harry S (2), Daniel (2) and strikers Harry H (1) and Bailey (1). Isaac, our captain, scored two fantastic goals, one of which was a shot from the half way line! The other was struck so hard it broke the net! Our aim for this season is to win the league.

Stanbridge Defeated by Bad Luck! (Report by Euan B. 6B)
On Tuesday 4th October, Storming Stanbridge played a Cup football match against St. Michael C E Primary School. Not knowing what lay ahead of them, Stanbridge played their passing game as normal. We had a golden opportunity to go ahead early on in the game, but Euan’s shot glanced the crossbar. Isaac S also tested their keeper with a long range effort. Disaster struck midway through the first half as the opposition scored two quick, lucky goals.
In the second half, Stanbridge were robbed of a penalty as the referee controversially failed to see a St. Michael’s defender handle the ball in the box. We felt as if it wasn’t going to be our day. The final whistle went and we had lost 2-0. However, we will reflect on this game in training and learn from it.

St Stephens played well in order to keep the score to 0 - 0 for the first ten minutes but then Daniel B scored three goals in five minutes! Bailey S then netted his first goal just before St Stephens scored with their first shot of the game. The half time score was 4 - 1.
The second half was very much like the first. Bailey S. scored a further three goals before Euan B, playing on the left wing, added another. The game finished 8 - 1 to Stanbridge. It was a very good team performance, with good finishing, chasing and battling from the boys. Well done!

Victory is finally ours against Bromley Heath (Report by Daniel B. 6A)
Stanbridge beat Bromley Heath in a thrilling encounter between the two sides! Stanbridge were unbeaten in the league before the match, and were determined to keep their unbelievable record up.
In the first half Stanbridge battled their way to a one goal lead thanks to Bailey’s effort on goal, after a great bit of play from the team. Bromley Heath were good but unable to hold back an in form Stanbridge side, with loads of ability.
The second half was more of the same as Stanbridge came out with their spirits high due to their 1-0 lead. Further goals from Ryan and Harry summed up the game after a brilliant performance from all the boys: Jack, Luke, Isaac (Captain), Daniel, Harry H, Harry S, Ryan and Bailey. Stanbridge win on the Road (Report by Ryan E. 5A)
On Thursday 23rd February, Stanbridge continued their winning streak with a convincing win over Christ Church. Bailey S was the first to start the scoring with a sneaky tap in which surprised the opposition. After that Christ Church attacked but our keeper, Jack W, kept sliding in for great saves.
In the second half, there was some great crossing from Euan B and Harry H and some solid defending from Luke B. Isaac S and Ryan E scored a goal each and Daniel B notched up a fantastic hat-trick. The Stanbridge team worked well together and gave a great performance which lead to a well deserved win.

Stanbridge tames Blackhorse (report by Luke B. 5A)
It was a bright, sunny Thursday afternoon (1.3.12) and great weather to play an enjoyable game of football against Blackhorse. Stanbridge were eager to get on with the game and looked strong from the start, putting Blackhorse under a lot of pressure from the kick off.
Stanbridge quickly went three goals up, two of which were stunning strikes by Harry H from well outside the box. However, Blackhorse then managed to pull a goal back. At half time we were winning 3-1 but Blackhorse would not go down without a fight and they got stuck into some tackles. Their effort did not pay off as Stanbridge attacked strongly, banging in another four goals! The goal scorers were Ryan M (2), Harry H (2), Daniel B (1), Isaac S (1) and Euan B (1) making the final score 7-1. This was a great team performance by everyone – well done!

Stanbridge Stun Mangotsfield (report by Jack W. 6A)
Stanbridge had a good start to the game, but good turned into legendary when Euan B scored a spectacular goal in the sixth minute from the left wing. He smashed the ball into the top right hand corner from way out.
Stanbridge were all over Mangotsfield in the first half of the game and in the second half, we struck like lightning with goals from Harry H, Daniel B and Bailey S. The match included some fantastic performances from Jack W., Isaac S (Captain), Ryan E, Luke B and Harry S. We all celebrated because this 4 – 0 victory meant that we had won the league. We sprayed ourselves with water, slid in the mud and piled on top of each other!
A special thank you to Mr Baker and Mr Sloper for giving us hope the whole way through. Congratulations Stanbridge!

Stanbridge Are Wembley Bound (report by Mr. Baker)
The Bristol Rovers mini bus was met at the school gates by eight very excited boys and a handful of anxious adults. The school football team was preparing to go to Oxford Utd’s training facilities in order to compete in the Southern Final of the npower Kid’s Cup. The prize? The opportunity to claim to be the best school team in the south of England and the chance to play at Wembley - the ‘home of football’.
Having recently won the Bristol tournament and secured the local league title, the children were brimming with confidence, convinced they would achieve their goal. Such was their swagger, it was difficult not to contemplate any other outcome. Shouts of ‘Wembley, Wembley, Wembley’ echoed around the mini bus for what seemed an eternity on our motorway journey to Oxford. Those cheers were stifled somewhat when the boys saw the skill of the opposition they were going to face.
Torquay, Barnet, Dagenham and Redbridge, Gillingham, Southend and Wimbledon were all in our group and the standard of football looked very good indeed. When Stanbridge took to the pitch as Bristol Rovers, we drew our first game 0-0 with Torquay. This was followed by a comprehensive 2-0 (Daniel B, Bailey S) victory over a much lauded Barnet side boasting Academy players from Fulham and West Brom. Another draw against Dagenham (1-1; Daniel B) left the boys deflated as it was a game they felt they should have won. Stanbridge drew a 0-0 blank against Gillingham which meant that we would have to win our last two games to ensure qualification from the group. Southend were dispatched with 1-0 (Isaac S), as were a big, physical Wimbledon side (1-0; Harry S).
The semi final against Hereford turned out to be one of the most intense, nerve racking games of football I have ever been involved in. With scores locked at 0-0 after full and extra time, the game went to penalties. Harry H took the first penalty and struck the ball with real venom sending the opposing goalie the wrong way. Hereford replied in similar fashion. Euan B stepped up to take his penalty but drilled it straight down the throat of the keeper. It seemed like the unimaginable was about to happen – Stanbridge were going home. Or so we thought. Daniel B scored our third penalty which meant that with the next strike Hereford would win. However, cometh the hour, cometh the man as Ryan E (our stand in keeper) got his outstretched fingers to the ball and pushed it onto the post, providing us with a lifeline. With that, Bailey S and Isaac S punished Hereford with two fantastic spot kicks forcing an error from the opposing team as their last penalty taker kicked wide. WE WERE THROUGH TO THE FINAL!
All that stood between the boys and their dream was the Barnet side which we had soundly beaten earlier in the tournament. This time however, they played with more focus and purpose and were not fazed by our attacking style. The game looked like it was going into extra time until Euan B, who came off the bench with two minutes to go, got on the end of a wonderful cross from Isaac S and volleyed the ball into the back of the net! The parents that came to support us erupted with joy, as did the children. Thirty seconds later the final whistle blew and parent, teacher and child all hugged each other in disbelief. Wembley was beckoning.
The journey back to Bristol ended as it had begun. Joyous screams of ‘Wembley’ resonated around the tinny mini bus. The outcome was never in any doubt ;)

Stanbridge held to a 2-2 Stalemate with St Michael's (report by Josh T. 5B)
On Friday 23rd March a Year 5 football team (with Isaac S on the bench) battled hard against St Michael's in a fierce friendly. In the first half, super Stanbridge fired shots at the opposing goalie and finally scored in the eighth minute when Ryan E headed home a great goal. However, shortly afterwards St Michael's equalised.
In the second half Luca and Liam (our goalkeepers) made some great saves, but St Michael's somehow managed to score a second goal. Eventually, Isaac S came off the bench and immediately had a shot blocked which Ryan E followed up on to score his second goal of the game.
The final score was 2 – 2. Bailey S, Harry S, Ryan E, Luke H (Captain), Finlay T, Luke B, Kieran B, Isaac S, Luca M, Liam G and myself (Josh T) all put in a great performance. Well done. Back Up...
Stanbridge enjoy a friendly in the Sun (report by George B. 5A)
On Tuesday 27th March, Stanbridge played a friendly away match in Winterbourne against Elm Park. Stanbridge got off to a great start to the game as George B scored from a gliding cross with a lethal left footed volley. We looked a little nervous at the back, but we soon got into our stride with a super strike from our midfield maestro Luke H. We added a third goal just before half time with a cool finish from our sharp shooter Ryan E.
Our defence was solid in the first half and they were determined to help maintain the goalkeeper’s clean sheet in the second half. George B scored a scorching second goal with a shot like a bullet into the bottom corner. We then had a possession drought which finally ended when Ryan E chipped the opposing keeper for his second and Stanbridge’s fabulous fifth.
Elm Park thought that we’d scored enough but they were wrong. We added a super sixth with Tom’s rocket header deflecting off an Elm Park defender and into the net. We must give credit to our opposition for giving us such a great battle and putting up an immense performance. Tom J, Isaac S, Max R, Kieran B, Bailey S, Harry H, Harry S, Luke H, Finlay T, Ryan E and George B – you all contributed towards a triumphant 6-0 victory. Back Up...
